IP Licensing

Bob Held has close to 20 years in the business of intellectual property (IP) and specializes in various IP services including monetization, management, and strategy.  Bob is currently the President of Held Intellectual Property, LLC, which offers a complete suite of intellectual property services including monetization (licensing, sales, etc), expert witness, IP management, acquisitions and strategic and tactical input on all IP matters.  Bob recently worked for TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) in Annapolis, Maryland as the Vice President, Intellectual Asset Management.  All assets of TCS were acquired in February 2016.  Immediately prior to joining TCS, Bob worked for Northrop Grumman Corporation, Electronic Systems Sector from 2003-2011 as the Director of the Intellectual Property & Strategic Technology Agreements business unit; and from 1998- 2003 he worked at the IP firm British Technology Group (BTG) International out of London. 

Bob has been the architect of hundreds of IP transactions around the world involving many types of technologies which generated hundreds of millions of dollars in value, and is a frequent lecturer and instructor at business and professional programs.  Some examples of agreements that Bob has constructed are: IP and patent licenses/sales, industry-university strategic relationships, mergers & acquisitions, strategic sourcing, litigation settlements, etc.

In addition to his consulting business, Bob is the co-author of two royalty rate surveys for the Licensing Executives Society (LES) entitled LES High-Tech Sector Royalty Rate and Deal Terms Survey 2011 and LES High-Tech Sector Royalty Rate and Deal Terms Survey 2014.

Bob has been a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) since 2008 and was named to the “IAM Strategy 300 – The World’s Leading IP Strategists” in 2015 and 2016. Bob is also a member of the Gathering 2.0 – an elite group of senior intellectual property professionals from around the world.  Bob has been active in the Licensing Executives Society (LES) USA and Canada since 1998, and currently serves on the LES Board of Trustees as Regional Vice President Public Policy, Standards, International & Strategic Planning.  Bob is also a frequent IP educator having taught the LES Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) Exam Review Course several times.  Topics include IP strategy, negotiations, and agreement development & drafting.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Villanova University and his MBA (Magna Cum Laude) from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business.
